Understanding dyes, pigments and bleaches

Creating gorgeous color in the comfort of your own home is something we can all do - it's safer, easier and more effective than ever before.

There are three types of coloring products available:

  • Direct dyes, or semi/demi permanent colors sit on the surface of the hair.
  • Developed dyes, or permanent colors, penetrate right into the hair's inner
cortex where they develop into their final color.
  • Bleaches reduce the darker colored pigments in the hair, causing the hair to
    lighten.

An open or damaged hair cuticle will allow color to penetrate easily, but it will also let it out - causing your new color to fade. Not surprisingly, dyes that sit on the surface tend to wash out quicker than developed dyes as they become locked into the hair shaft.

The foundation of fabulous color is always the same - great conditioned hair. Schwarzkopf products are packed with special care ingredients that nourish and protect every strand for a longer lasting more vibrant result.
