PRODUCT TYPES
Understanding product categories

Within the realm of styling there are many different ways to define the look you've always dreamed of. With so much choice it's important to understand how the products work to see which one would suit you best.

To avoid any confusion, in the section we examine the differences between the variety of product types:

HAIRSPRAY AND HAIR LACQUER
Keeping it in place

Hairspray provides the perfect finish to your hairstyle. For example, Taft hairsprays protect the hair against the elements of wind, sun and humidity and provide long-lasting hold while adding shine.

Like most styling products, a hairspray is based on film formers. The main expectation for a hairspray is to hold the hairstyle with natural elasticity. Lacquer does the same job but has a stronger hold due to enriched film former technology. The Taft range comes in both aerosol and non-aerosol sprays.

SETTING MOUSSE AND LIQUID
SETTING MOUSSE AND LIQUID
Holding the shape

Hair settings, namely mousses and liquid lotions, help to shape the hairstyle, making freshly washed hair easier to style. The hair is given greater body and elasticity and is protected from environmental damage.

In addition these products prevent the static that makes hair fly away thus giving a longer lasting style. The basic components of both liquids and mousses are film formers. The amount of film former depends on the expected level of hold.

GELS, CREAMS AND WAX
Sculpting texture

Styling gel, cream and wax are ideal for sculpting either selective strands of hair or the entire head. The basic formula of all three products is designed to hold the hair together.

Gel
Styling gels are oil-free and water-based. A styling gel is simple to use: apply it on dry or damp hair using your fingers, style each strand of hair to obtain the desired look. To dry the hair, use either a hairdryer or leave it dry naturally.

Cream
Most modern styling creams are based on water-in-oil emulsions. The oil contained in styling creams makes the hair supple but does not weigh it down, so that it looks natural and can be styled more easily.
Creams do not hold as strong as gels; they softly shape the hair. Styling cream should be worked into slightly damp or dry hair, beginning at the roots. The hair is then sculpted into the desired shape using the fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Dry the hair using either a hairdryer or leave it dry naturally.

Wax
Styling wax provides hold and shine to hair. Wax is based on vegetable or mineral oils. It gives hair a trendy finish and is effective at sculpting hair strands.

PERMS
PERMS
Re-shape as you like it

The term permanent wave isn't just an expression for curls but for a diverse range of hair re-shaping. Modern waving products, including those for home-use contain sophisticated combinations of products that enable the consumer to choose the most suitable perm method.

Suitability depends on the desired style, the hair's natural structure and on how often the hair has already been chemically treated. Take a look at the packaging to see which perm would suit your hair type and provide the best results.

Modern home-perms are convenient and safe to use, however inexperienced perm users should request the help of family/friends to set the hair on the curlers and should pay special attention to the application time.
